Jackie Huba is a bestselling author and motivational speaker. She’s also…a female drag queen.
Yes, there is such a thing.
Also known as a bio queen, female drag queens are women who channel the fierce confidence, fabulous esthetic, and commanding presence made famous for decades by drag queens. They certainly aren’t as well known as drag queens, but they’re out there.
In her forties and working at IBM, Jackie Huba felt her life was pretty mundane. She wanted to shake things up. She wanted to feel confident and strong. That’s when she stumbled upon a little show called RuPaul’s Drag Race.
She was dazzled by the performances, the costumes, and more importantly, the confidence.
That’s when Lady Trinity was born.
Of course there’s more to that story and a great explanation on how she chose her drag name in her TED Talk, “Unleash the Power of Your Inner Drag Queen.” It isn’t very long and I urge everyone to listen to it. Oh, and she was the first woman to do a TED Talk as a female drag queen…which is pretty awesome.
Expanding on her TED Talk, Jackie has released a new book titled, Fiercely You: Be Fabulous and Confident by Thinking Like a Drag Queen. Not only does the book cover Jackie’s own drag evolution, but introduces her “5 Keys to Fierce.”
The book is receiving amazing reviews, with RuPaul saying:
When you become the image of your own imagination, it’s the most powerful thing you could ever do.”
To celebrate her fierceness (and her new book), Jackie will be performing at the Austin PRIDE Festival on Saturday, August 27th…in drag. This marks another first for Jackie. First female drag queen to ever perform on the main stage at the Austin PRIDE Festival. If you’re in the Austin area or anywhere close, the Austin PRIDE Festival is one thing you do not want to miss!
