Michael lands a Movie

At long last a highly deserving actor who’s talent has never received proper recognition has finally snagged a role in a movie! According to Michael Shanks Online, which received the update from Michael himself,  the Stargate veteran has been cast in a Warner Bros. film entitled “The Girl With the Red Riding Hood”, a dark Gothic retelling of the Grimm’s fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood.

Also cast in the film are such well known names as Gary Oldman and Julie Christie, as well as Amanda Seyfried and Max Irons. It will be directed by Catherine Hardwicke. As The Hollywood Reporter describes it, “‘Riding Hood’ is one of several projects casting for young actors as Hollywood rides a wave of youth-centered movies.”

Michael’s role is that of Adrien Lazar, a blacksmith who’s son, played by Max Irons, is the love interest of Amanda Seyfield’s character. This would unfortunately seem to indicate that Michael’s character is not centric to the story. However, we Michael fans can rejoice that he may have finally made it to the big screen, and it’s all easy sailing from there, right?

Michael reported to MSOL that filming will begin on July 22. As of this update, filming does not seem to have distrupted Michael’s planned appearances at the Chicago Creation convention in August, or at Dragon*Con in September. Let’s all hope it stays that way or I think I will cry!

I should mention that SpaceGypsyMama is too busy swooning to contribute to this update, and she doesn’t know if she will ever recover. It’s not a problem though because it gave me the opportunity to make my first post a Michael Shanks related one!

He certainly will! Hopefully they will give him enough screen time and attention to show his acting chops! Thanks for commenting, Basiajo!
