Toys Held Hostage

Diamond Select Toys has captured Ba’al, but they are holding General Hammond captive!

Seriously!

Back in March of this year, Gateworld.net reported that Diamond Select toys was having dificulty finding proper retail support. “There is a chance you have seen the last of the 7-inch figures from DST,” a representative told fans in a Q&A session.  “We’re not ready to say that but it is possible.  Unless something happens to change buyers’ feelings, it’s just not something we can justify in this environment. ”

DST has been making these wonderful action figures since 2006, capturing both the characters and several well known series accessories from both the SG-1 and Atlantis series. No detail is overlooked. I personally own the entire SG-1 collection: Stargate and it’s ramp, the DHD, the M.A.L.P, a set of transporter rings, a Serpent Guard, a Prior of the Ori, Thor, Anubis, Jonas Quinn, Cameron Mitchell, Vala Mal Doran, and several versions of Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson, Jack O’Neill, and Teal’c. The quality and craftsmanship of these 7 inch tall heroes has never failed to amaze me and have me looking for more.

Now the most recent additions to that collection – Series 5 which includes a Horus Guard, Air Force Uniform Jack O’Neill, Black Ops Samantha Carter, General Hammond, and Ba’al, each including the pieces to build a UAV – are in danger of never being released.

From the beginning I remember fans saying that there needed to be a Hammond figure in particular. So now that there is one, what are we fans going to do about it?

As Chris Myers of DST’s marketing department told GateWorld in March, “We would basically need retailer support. The best thing the fans can do would be to convince the retailers that they would buy them. This is nothing against the fans, because we want to release these figures as much as they want to have them, but if the retail support isn’t there the line will continue to be on hold.”

So go out to your local collectables stores and ask for the “Diamond Select Toys Stargate collection” by name. Let them know what you’re looking for, and keep going back!

Also, DST does sell a number of the figures directly from their website, at least until they run out of stock. Perhaps fans could encourage DST to sell at least some of the new figures directly. Write them and tell them you want to buy the Series 5 figures at customerservice@diamondselecttoys.com and address your letters to Kelly Winnik and FrancisLimcuando of the sales staff!

Together we will save General Hammond and hand Ba’al over to the Tok’ra!

I still cannot believe that there’s no General Hammond action figure! As iconic as he was to the fans and the franchise…it’s a shame.

That’s just the best call to arms! Love this: Together we will save General Hammond and hand Ba’al over to the Tok’ra! That’s a great plan. I’m going to write them… and order me a Daniel and Vala. Oh yeah, thanks for this one!
