Costumes, they’re not just for Halloween anymore!

My very special love. Costumes. And wigs, which are a costume unto themselves. For most people who enjoy wearing costumes there’s Halloween and the occasional masked New Years Eve ball. But for me, there’s more. Toss on a fun wig and head out to wherever. And the biggies, Mardi Gras Day in New Orleans. Dragon Con in Atlanta, Halloween just about anywhere you happen to be, and those other intermittent SciFi/Fantasy Conventions, parties and whatever makes your geek flag fly!

Favorite places to look for costumes? Well lets start with Fifi Mahoney’s on Royal St, New Orleans and I’ve heard there is one in Atlanta! There are some wild things there and not all of it wigs. There’s glitter too! And lost of great make up and accessories.

My all time fav wig bought there which is now worn by Ms Hurricane Katrina though I did somehow manage to save the disco ball, it’s on a shelf in my bedroom. Imagine an oversized Afro style Raspberry colored wig, with a disco ball in the center immediately over the bangs…and two small blinking battery operated lights pointed at it. Yikes. Still searching for the photo, but alas, it may also be gone.

And the back room of Josette’s on Howard Avenue in Biloxi, MS. Racks, racks and racks of awesomeness. And Of course the custom costumes are everywhere. And everything you need between your skin and the costume of your dreams (except I didn’t find too much Steampunk but we all love the other stuff too)

It’s a different world in New Orleans – and costumes are different then the unequivocal DragonCon costumes, but fun, exciting, imaginative, creative and all those other tives are there in New Orleans.

This brings me to my Dragon*Con 2010 favorite costume of which I have no picture because I was staring in awe, mouth agape and a cheerful thrill running through my every nerve the instant I heard the “weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.”

Imagine if you will… A Klingon. In full Klingon regalia, Big guy, lots of chainmaille. Dark and brooding as one would expect their Klingon to look. Not friendly and actually menacing… except he wore pink pig ears and a pink pig nose, and in each hand as he ran through the massive crowd in the Hotel Marriott, a pink whirlybird – and he maintained that “wee” all the way though the building…or perhaps all the way home. It was THE most spectacular thing I have ever had the pleasure to witness. Simple, precise and unassuming. Awesome.

Some of the others I did manage to capture here:

Loved it!! I actually caught a picture of said Klingon. It’s on my Facebook page in my Dragon*Con album. He made my day! I can’t watch that commercial without thinking about him. =D
