Atlanta’s Artifice Club Presents The Weird West Saloon
Steampunk Rides Again at Western-Themed Event
Following the tremendous success of the Clockwork Carnival, The Artifice Club is pleased to announce its Summer event, The Weird West Saloon, to be held Saturday July 23, 2011 at the Solarium at 321 Hill Street in Oakhurst, a neighborhood of Decatur, Georgia.
The Weird West Saloon, as the name implies, takes inspiration from the speculative fiction of the American West and creates a Steampunk wonderland, compliments of Penny Dreadful Productions. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. when the Trading Post Market opens for business. Artists, photographers, fabricators and other vendors will offer their wares in a setting reminiscent of an old-time general store. Admission to the Trading Post is free to the public.
At 7 p.m., the doors open for ticketholders. The evening’s main attraction features the swinging hot jazz sounds of the local musical sensation, Blair Crimmins and the Hookers, sure to send any barroom regular’s toes tapping to the Dixieland beat. Talloolah Love and Her Saloon Girls follow with a burlesque performance sure to please the assembled outlaws, gamblersand gold miners. The Saloon’s sheriff, the incomparable MC and comedienne Sabrina Pandora, is sure to keep the peace for the night, while the evening is rounded out by DJ Doctor Q and DJ Swivel spinning an eclectic mix that will set the ladies and their gentlemen admirers to dancing. The doors close at midnight, but the party doesn’t stop – it just moves next door to McGowan’s Oakhurst Pub, serving the finest craft beers and tastiest pub grub in the area.
Throughout the night, patrons may participate in a charity casino featuring blackjack, Texas Hold ‘Em and roulette. Those who are not interested in gambling can take part in a charity “Maverick Shootout” Quick Draw tournament. Prizes will be awarded for both events, and proceeds benefit Dream Power Therapeutic Equestrian Center, sponsored by VONschmalhausen.
A pre-party is also planned for Friday, July 22nd at Universal Joint, 906 Oakhurst Road at 8 p.m. Guests can enjoy U-Joint’s legendary burgers, sandwiches and appetizers along with a vast selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks. There is no cover charge and guests are not required to hold tickets to the Weird West Saloon to attend.
General membership is $20 at the door. A limited number of Elite and Noble memberships are available. Elite membership is $30 per person and includes two drink tickets and special priority seating. Noble membership is $65 and includes admission for two, four drink tickets and access to the exclusive Nobles’ Parlor, where members can relax and enjoy complimentary coffee and tea service.
