He’s known as the “Merc with a Mouth” and now he’s got his very own game! If you’re like me then you’ve been waiting with baited breath for this game to come out. Even from the trailers, we could tell this would be one hilarious game.
The premise is simple. It’s a third-person shooter from Deadpool’s point of view. You see, Deadpool wants his own game and he pitched the idea to a gaming company. They liked what they heard and sent him the script for “his” game. Obviously, it doesn’t live up to Deadpool’s standards and he takes it upon himself to rewrite it. So begins the game…
I’m not going to spoil it for you by telling you what happens or by giving away the ending. That wouldn’t be fair. The entire game is so loaded with off-handed references, inside jokes only comic fans would get, and many nods to Deadpool’s history, nothing I can say would do it justice. The opening screen of the game even gives you a brief rundown on Deadpool’s history and character bios for the other Marvel icons you’ll encounter. This is incredibly handy, especially if you’re a gamer not familiar with the comics.
I will say this. Every piece of this game has Deadpool’s unique sense of humor written all over it. The developers over at High Moon Studios did their research. It’s clear they know this character inside and out. Throughout the game you collect “Deadpool Points” by killing enemies or, you know, just finding them at random. You can then use these points to shop for weapon upgrades, new melee combos, and other awesome stuff. The shopping mall muzak in the background of the upgrade screen pretty much makes it.
Given that this is a game focusing on the Merc with a Mouth, you can bet that the dialog will have you laughing so hard you’ll cry…and maybe even wet yourself a little. The cut scene dialog is top notch, but given that this is an action game with a lot of “stabby stabby,” Deadpool’s quips when you’re fighting are on a sort of loop. About half way through the game they do get old. The upside is that the more you upgrade your weapons, acquire new weapons, and combos, the more comments Deadpool will have.
This is a great game with medium replay value. It’s definitely as fun to watch as it is to play. Though some of the combat sequences can get a little frustrating. If you’re looking for a fun and hilarious good time then Deadpool is your man.
