Just when we got Janina Gavankar’s “Love Lockdown” out of our heads, she comes out with another single to take its place.
“Kali Ma,” named after the Hindu goddess of creation, preservation and destruction, has a completely different sound than “Love Lockdown.” When I say completely different I mean polar opposites different. “Kali Ma” is a throbbing club beat mixed in with catchy vocals, both spoken and sung, and a lot of synthesizer. It stays with you and will make an awesome club anthem.
Where “Love Lockdown” was soulful with a soft sadness to it, “Kali Ma” possesses a strength and fire fitting for the goddess. The lyrics are powerful and tell of creation and destruction. It screams strong, powerful woman, one that can handle things on her own and doesn’t take crap from anyone. The lyrics are explicit, however, the stronger language adds to the strength of the song rather than simply making it more urban. Once again, it’s all in how the song is delivered. Ms. Gavankar doesn’t just sound like a badass…she IS a badass.
Janina Gavankar is showing us that she’s not a one hit wonder. She’s a chameleon. She changes her sound and her style but what she doesn’t change is being a strong woman. That’s what we love about her. We can’t wait for the music video. It’s sure to be hot!
Check out “Kali Ma” now on YouTube! We can’t wait for the mp3 download!
