Speak Out with Your Geek Out!

Hello fellow travelers!

This is a very special week for the SpaceGypsies. We recently discovered Operation Speak Out with your Geek Out and it was something that really spoke to us. We’re proud to be geeks and we’re proud to be fans. And we’re not afraid to show it!

Geeks have spent far too long being teased and stereotyped. But instead of combating negativity with harsh words, Operation Speak Out with your Geek Out proposes that we invite those that pick on us to “sit at our table and share our interests.”

“Let us combat being used as pawns for internet gaffes with the reasons why we’re awesome, why we love what we love, and why it’s good to be a geek.” -Operation Speak Out with your Geek Out

SpaceGypsies is proud to join Operation Speak Out with your Geek Out this week, September 12th- 16th by posting about the things we geek out for and why we’re proud to be geeks.

Do you want to join the revolution and geek out too? Post your geeky story in our comments section this week and let us know what you geek out for!

Never be afraid to let your geek flag fly!

Andrea Powell to Guest Star on Army Wives!

Everyone’s favorite werewolf momma Andrea Powell (The Gates) will soon be guest starring on an episode of Lifetime’s popular drama Army Wives! Andrea will be playing an events manager and according to her tweets the character sounds a lot like Karen Crezski, Andrea’s character on The Gates…at least as far as wardrobe goes!

The episode, which will air April 17th at 9 p.m./8 central on Lifetime, is called “Strategic Alliances.” We did a little digging around for an episode summary and here’s what we found:

“Claudia Joy and Chandler try to help an Army wife who is being threatened with deportation; Roxy finds a way to cut costs and move forward with the truck stop; Roland and Joan offer to watch Molly when Denise comes down with the flu.” via AOL TV.

Hmm, not sure where an event planner fits in there, but it will be interesting to see!

If you want to catch up on past episodes of Army Wives you can find them on the show’s official site. Army Wives is a fantastic series that follows the lives of four wives whose husbands are in the army, their families and an army husband whose wife is in the army.

Army Wives airs Sundays at 9 p.m./8 central on Lifetime. Check your local listings.

Big Congratulations to Janina Gavankar!

SpaceGypsies would like to give a big CONGRATULATIONS to The Gates star and fellow Chicagoan Janina Gavankar! According to several sources, Janina has been cast as a series regular on the HBO smash hit True Blood. Janina will join the fourth season of the show as Luna, a public school teacher with some serious sex appeal who just so happens to be a shapeshifter like the ever so yummy Sam Merlotte.

Other cast additions include Alexandra Breckenridge, Fiona Shaw, and Vedette Lim as Wiccans and an underground cage fighter. But we’ve got to say, as Chicago girls and Gates fans we’re the most excited to see Janina flex her shapeshifting muscles!

Can’t wait until Season 4 airs to see Janina? Don’t forget to check her out on FX’s The League as Shiva, the hot namesake for the League’s annual Shivabowl! You can download her episodes now on iTunes or check them out on FXnetworks.com.

Don’t forget to follow Janina on Twitter for all the latest news and updates!
